Vizio is making a red TV to raise money for AIDS awareness

Vizio is producing a special edition red model of its 55-inch P-Series 4K TV in partnership with Product Red, an organization that campaigns to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa. A minimum of 10 percent of the price of every TV will be donated to the organizations campaign against the disease. Weve seen plenty of Product Red devices over the years, but this is the first time weve seen a model of television take on the distinctive red finish. Apple has been one of the biggest supporters of the initiative, releasing a red iPhone 8 earlier this year and a red iPhone 7 the year before. TVs tend to be much more conservative with their color schemes than phones, making Vizios red P-Series a bold statement for anyone who chooses to buy it. Thankfully, you wont have to make many spec compromises if you want to support a good cause. The P-Series set supports a full array of HDR standards (including HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG), and it has a backlight with 56 local dimming zones, which should allow for a decent level of contrast between light and dark areas of an image. Theres no official word yet on pricing or availability, and the lack of real product shots in the announcement suggests theyre a little ways away. The non-red version of the TV is currently retailing for around $799.99, and, historically, the prices of Apples red iPhones tend to stick closely to the standard model.

Vizio is selling a Product RED TV to help fight AIDS in Africa

The special edition of the 55-inch P-Series set will be on sale by the holidays. If you've ever found yourself looking at your TV, wishing its gray or black casing was a little more exciting, Vizio might have the answer. Plus, you might help out a good cause, too. The manufacturer is teaming up with Product RED for a red version of the 55-inch P-Series 4K TV. At least 10 percent of the purchase price of each set will go towards Product RED's campaign to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa. It's not yet clear how much the red edition will cost, but the set typically retails for around $800. Vizio plans to launch it in time for the holiday season. Having a red TV in your living room might be novel (and a heck of a conversation starter), but it's not the first time Product RED has teamed up with tech companies to help it combat AIDS. It has enjoyed a long partnership with Apple, for instance. Earlier this year, Apple started selling red versions of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to benefit the cause. Amazon has also helped the initiative, with a red version of the Echo Plus arriving last year.
